About Me

Paulo Prodöhl is Professor of Population and Evolutionary Genetics. His research focuses on biodiversity, population and conservation genetics, and genomics, with a strong emphasis on applying advanced omics and bioinformatics tools to real-world challenges in sustainable management and conservation. His group studies population structure, local adaptation, and the genetic impacts of aquaculture introductions on wild fish and shellfish, and also develops methods for genetic stock identification, selective breeding, and defining conservation units to support fisheries management. His group’s work ranges from biodiversity monitoring and stock assessment to applied conservation genetics, with the goal of informing both policy and practice. Current projects in his group include the use of metabarcoding and metagenomics to characterise marine food webs, as well as generating high-resolution maps of genetic biodiversity across marine ecosystems.
