About Me
Niall McLaughlin is a lecturer (Associate Professor) with the School of Electronics, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at Queen’s University Belfast, Northern Ireland. Dr McLaughlin has expertise in developing image and video analysis systems for applications in both agriculture and public safety and security. He has developed novel algorithms for multiple object tracking, behaviour classification, and re-identification systems for train and airport security. He has conducted research on visual re-identification algorithms for dairy cows and pigs. He has developed specialised multiple-object tracking systems for the detection of ear-biting in pigs and real-time tracking of multiple interacting farm animals. He has collaborated with commercial partners on the development of algorithms for monitoring the welfare of large flocks of broiler chickens.
