About Me
David McKee is Professor of Marine Optics and Remote Sensing in the Physics Department at the University of Strathclyde. His research is focused on developing optical technologies to improve our understanding of the role the ocean plays in global biogeochemical cycles and climate. Prof McKee has used understanding of underpinning physics to develop improved in situ optical sensing approaches and to develop a new framework for interpreting ocean colour remote sensing imagery in optically complex waters. He is now pioneering use of AI and machine learning approaches to further advance and accelerate ocean colour image processing with the aim being to establish quality-controlled data that end users can exploit with confidence. Prof McKee works in close collaboration with groups across the UK and internationally, and is committed to providing meaningful solutions to real world challenges.
